Get to Know the Girl Behind the Blog

I don't know about you guys, but when I read a blog I think it's interesting to get a glimpse behind the reviews and the interviews and contests. You can gather a bit of a blogger's personality by just reading their content: what kind of sense of humor they have, a little of their morals and values, taste in books. It's cool to actually get to know a little bit about that person as well!

So, in case anyone's interested at all, here are some random tidbits about me.

.:. I'm 25, but I don't feel like it at all. (Or apparently look like it. I still get carded everywhere I go, and was carded for just standing in a casino while on a Vegas vacation.) I really feel like someone just hit "fast-forward" on my life after turning 21. I'm hyperemotional and a hypochondriac. I have extreme facial expressions (too embarrassed to upload photographic evidence of this) and talk with my hands. I have an immature and ridiculous sense of humor. I laugh at things that make no sense and probably aren't as funny as I find them. Like this video.

.:. I'm in Nursing school full-time, after pretty much ruling out every other major in the world. I wanted to be a veterinarian, psychologist, meteorologist, editor, and music teacher throughout my life. I'm indecisive and scared to take responsibility and initiative for my future, but you have to grow up sometime, right? I also work full-time in customer service, though I'd love to be a stay at home millionaire housewife and read all day. Would anyone like to sponsor my cause?

.:. I met my husband when I was 15. I didn't know that he'd be my husband at that time, though. We both had separate lives and he ended up moving far away, but we remained friends for 6 years before actually dating. He's the best thing in my life and I have so much admiration for him. AND he's smart. Oh, so very smart. He is a high school social studies teacher. Plus, he keeps my whimsical self relatively down to earth. I pretty much scored, finding one with looks AND brains. We've been married for a little over a year and I have the best life ever.

.:. I have a food addiction. I am not ashamed to eat people's leftovers. It's finally begun to catch up with me. (I HATE YOU, MID-TWENTIES.) My favorite is vegetable lo mein, tacos de carne asada, spaghetti, cheeses of any and all kinds, and I even love canned Spaghetti-Os. I can't cook, so none of the above bodes well for the wallet. Except the delicious nutrition of canned noodles and potentially harmful meat.

.:. I have two feline children, Bella (gray/white) and Bo Schembechler (cream). For the most part, I like animals more than people. Sad, but true. Yes, I named Bella after Bella Swan. Yes, she's equally needy and whiny. It fits. And yes, I regularly have photoshoots with my cats. They're very photogenic, can you blame me?

.:. I believe that an 8 hour workday should come with a nap.

.:. My favorite books when I was a kid were the Babysitter's Club series, Goosebumps, and Fear Street. I read those religiously, but didn't branch out of those series much. I regret that now, but am more than attempting to make up for it!

.:. My favorite musicians are: My Chemical Romance, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews Band, Bon Iver, Ludo, Imogen Heap, Britney Spears, Billy Joel, Jason Reeves, The Spill Canvas, The Rocket Summer, Jack's Mannequin, Foy Vance, Ingrid Michaelson, Jason Mraz, Muse, The Fray, Missy Higgins, Brandi Carlile, and Paramore. There are more, I just can't think of them off the top of my head. Music is my life.

.:. Some of my favorite series are as follows:
Twilight Saga, of course
Vampire Academy Series
Wicked Lovely Series
Georgina Kincaid Series (not YA)
Mercy Thompson Series (not YA, but suitable for it)
Morganville Vampires Series
Gemma Doyle Trilogy
The Hunger Games Trilogy

Yes, that is me in a nutshell. Pretty boring, but whatever. Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask!

  1. I hopped by and landed on kitty photos, screw the hop, there were kitty photos!!!
I have a weekly meme called feline friday, and my fuzzy children make a regular appearance (I was just gripping the other day about how animals are the superior higher species to humans, who doesn't like them better?).

if you're still into creepy books come on by this month, I'm hosting Giving me the Creeps October and you can link up any of your scary reviews, interviews or giveaways as well as take part in mine all month.
    I'm a new follower

  2. Hey Rhiannon! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, cats > people BY FAR. Except book bloggers. Book bloggers and cats are pretty equal :D

Anyway, thanks for letting me know about your kitty meme! I'm totally a cat lady, so I may have to join in on that. I'm about to hop to your blog to check it out.

  3. We seem to have similar taste in books and friends; that meaning I have four of the little cat monkeys. One had major surgery to remove a large mass that just popped up on her back. All shaved with a seven inch scar she looks like a calico bride of Frankencat. Old follower. Love the wedding picture. I am not a kid person but spend most of my days volunteering for their welfare. Your kids are lovely. Steph I have a great contest until Monday at

  4. lol We have the same problem. People don't believe I'm in my 20s either. I don't smoke or drink, but sometimes I just want to buy some cigs or beer just to see their reaction. XD

I'm indecisive and scared to take responsibility and initiative for my future..
    And this is me. Exactly. I still don't know what I want to do with my life. Gahh... I need to figure it out ASAP. @_@;;

Aww your wedding picture is so cute. You're really pretty, Jen! Also, your cats look adorable. When I was a kid, we had a cat, but he hated us (seriously, always clawing at our feet and scaring us at night) and ran away. :P About ten years after that we finally got a kitty, but he ran away as well. :(

Tacos de carne asada <--That is really yummy!
Mexican food is so good. Wish I was better at making it. I want some right now. *¬*

  5. HA! I'm 45 and still get carded for lottery tickets!! you will come to appreciate this!
I also wanted to be a verternarian but settled for working for and I always put up pictures of my "kids" - 3 dogs & 3 cats - on my blog.
I'm not a hypochondriac but I am pretty phobic of alomst anything except ironically enough - bugs.

    Cute post!

  6. I'm also 25, and I have the same problem with looking younger than I am. At the beginning of the year, I went to my cousin's high school basketball game, and the woman selling tickets thought I was a high school student. I also got carded in Vegas this summer (once when I ordered a margarita, and once when I was just standing in a casino. . .but I didn't get carded when I was actually playing the slots. Go figure!).

I guess when we're older, we'll appreciate looking younger than we are, right? :)

  7. I'm 25 as well, and find weird things funny. Its great to get to know the person behind the blog.

  8. At 25 I was married for 6 years and was told I looked about 15! It was funny then now at 48 wish still looked much younger so enjoy it Jen as time and Mother Nature will take care of youthful appearance soon enough!

Cats are indubitably special little friends, people like myself who grew up with dogs do not know just how wonderful they are until they get their first kitten... My 2 are my most fun to watch pets of all time as have had them since they were both babies have watched as the grew from feisty little balls of fur to sleek tiger and tigress cats who know they are the true King and Queen of the house!

Congratulations on your luck with finding the right guy and the fact that he accepts you for who you are, that fact is worth more gold than the national treasury ever could hold!

Thanks for a small glimpse into your likes, dislikes and quirks as it is always fun to read some facts about others in blogland...

Also thanks for stopping by my mailbox, and yes the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine is pretty good.. I have almost all of them now from Paperback Swap and when get the complete series will read them all back to back.. RIght now have only read several short stories set in the series about character Joanne Baldwin but loved them.....
