Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Books of 2011
Tuesday, December 14, 2010
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by one of my most blogs in the WHOLE. ENTIRE. WORLD., The Broke and Bookish.
I could not even wait to wake up this morning in order to type up this post. There are so many books I'm looking forward to in 2011. I think I'm going to put myself into deep financial strain, but as long as I've got all these pretty spines decorating my shelves, consider the blow softened.
1. Darkest Mercy by Melissa Marr.
Anyone who knows me knows that this is my automatic answer to any question regarding which book I'd throw some elbows to get my hands on. I have been completely enraptured by Melissa Marr's world and her beautiful, versatile characters. Irial was in the #2 spot on my "Top Ten Literary Crushes" list awhile back, and with GOOD REASON. I could gush about this series forever, but perhaps you'll be less bored if you just go out and pick it up yourself, no?
2. Shift by Jeri Smith-Ready.
Another "if you know me, you know" given. Jeri is awesome because she's an emotional writer. Also, she has impeccable taste in music. She's written a beautiful, heartbreaking love story (complete with a believable triangle! YAY!) in SHADE. We were left hanging with that ending and I cannot wait to find out what happens to Logan/Aura/Zachary. Did I mention Zachary has a Scottish accent and Logan is (was?) a tortured musician? NOM.
3. Wither by Lauren DeStefano.
Everyone wants to get their hands on this one. That cover. That dress. The reviews which have sung the book's praises that I've come across, like, everyday. I am buzzing with anticipation for this one. I previously did a WoW for it and there was a debate about who the cover model resembles: Mandy Moore or Mila Kunis (with dyed hair, of course.) You guys, I am sticking with Mila. Her nose turns up too much to be Mandy and her face is too small. Mila, ftw! At any rate, *tantrum* I want Witherrrrrr.
4. Bumped by Megan McCafferty.
I'm still in the middle of the Jessica Darling series, but Meg Mc is one of my favorite authors. I decided this after the hootin' and hollerin' from this quote finally died down, "Yes, the particular musculature of your ass does feel familiar. I remember you now!" on page 14 of Second Helpings. Anyway, when I saw Meg Mc has written her YA debut, I programmed myself to mentally count down the weeks, days, minutes, until this is released. It's definitely a far cry from the JD subject matter, but I am expecting nothing short of amaze balls from this lady.
5. Delirium by Lauren Oliver.
I read Oliver's debut, Before I Fall, and was completely taken aback. I thought it would be about some bitchy girls making stupid decisions without remorse. Turns out, it was about bitchy girls making stupid decisions with increasing remorse as time went on. But oh, it was so much more than that. Melanie from Reclusive Bibliophile has written a beautiful review of Delirium (so articulate and eloquent, that Melanie is!) and since reading it, I can't wait to get it! In fact, I get a Nook this weekend so NETGALLEY, WATCH OUT!
6. Across the Universe by Beth Revis.
I'd be lying (and so would you!) if I said that I wasn't first drawn in by that redonkulously sexy cover. I really enjoy the fact that this is set on a spaceship. And it's in the future. And judging by the two silhouettes, THERE WILL BE ROMANCE! This sounds pretty different from anything I've read, so I need this book.
7. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand.
I super duper crazy omg seriously love this cover. It's bluey-purpley-greyey and I enjoy that. I do enjoy the Hush, Hush series and I think angels are pretty swell. I'm hoping this book lives up to my expectations. I'm also wanting to read this for the 2011 Debut Author Challenge, so I'm hoping that once I get my Nook, I can stay away from this title on NetGalley until 2011. Gahhhhhh... I don't want to, though. Also, it comes out on my husband's 26th birthday. I'll have to buy it for him....for me.
8. Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton.
BATTLE SCENES! I've heard about some seriously awesome fight scenes in this book and that makes me do a happy dance. I love it when female protags kick a hefty amount of butt. Also, the chick on the cover reminds me of a Gerudo chick from The Legend of Zelda. I'm wearing my nerd hat today, can you see it?
9. A Touch Mortal by Leah Clifford.
Again, we have fallen angels. This book sounds really good. Last night, the author was putting some small teasers on Twitter. From what I read, this one's gonna be a little edgy-ish. There may or may not have been an F-bomb. I'm excited to see if this book lives up to my expectations! Another one I'm reading for the Debut Author Challenge.
10. The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney.
FEY! I LOVE THE FEY! I'm especially intrigued because the summary on GoodReads has the phrase "vicious wood elves" in it. Usually I think of "wood elves" as the nice little Keebler elves who make those delicious E.L. Fudge cookies. How can they be vicious when they bring such delight to the tastebuds? I have super crazy high hopes for this one and I CANNOT WAIT FOR 2011.
I'll tell ya... I spend much of my life wishing it away for books. But I digress. Looking forward to reading everyone else's awesome lists!!
