Soundtracking is something I pretty much do subconsciously. I listen to a TON of music and I read a TON of books. Somehow, the two just end up colliding. Movies have soundtracks, TV shows have soundtracks... why not books? I probably won't do this consistently... I guess whenever inspiration strikes :) Just a disclaimer that Soundtracking is potentially spoilery... but they're going to be pretty obvious spoilers, not big brain-busting spoilers.
EXCEPT THIS ONE. THIS WILL HAVE SPOILERS! OMG OMG AIJSOIUQOIRPU LOOK AWAY!
***SPOILERS FOR BLOOD PROMISE AND ALL PREVIOUS VA BOOKS***
Don't say I didn't warn you.
It's no secret that the Vampire Academy series is FULL of emotion and angst. After the end of Shadow Kiss, I had to wait SIX MONTHS for Blood Promise. Worst cliffhanger ever. EVAR. I had so many songs that shot through my head for that one, knowing that Rose was about to set off on a journey to drive a stake through the heart of her one true love, gargantuan Russian smorgasbord of nom, Dimitri mothertrucking Belikov. How could you do it, Mead!? HOW!?
I seriously didn't think there was any possible way that my heart could break anymore after that. Along came Blood Promise, and I was proven wrong. The emotional torture that Rose endured seriously ripped me apart. Could YOU kill the person you loved more than anything? Even if they were evil? You can't tell me there wouldn't be some weighing of option going on in your head.
Hurricane by 30 Seconds to Mars is big time angsty. No one can perfect the whisperscream like Jared Leto (not to mention he could totally pull off the role as Dimitri) and I'd like to believe that Dimitri can sing like this. It's such a beautiful, heartbreaking song and I can imagine the internal turmoil Rose is experiencing when she's confronted with Strigoi Dimitri, who promises her everything. Having made a promise to kill him if he was ever turned, and to have him right in front of her, telling her he wants her forever? Plus, he's gonna end your life if you don't come over to the dark side. Hard decisions.
I would've posted the official music video, but there is far too much sexytimes going on and I know there are some young readers that wouldn't appreciate that. Venture to watch the official video on your own time, peeps. And prepare to blush a little, perhaps.
tell me would you kill to save a life
tell me would you kill to prove you're right
burn, let it all burn
this hurricane's chasing us all underground
no matter how many deaths that i die
i will never forget
no matter how many lives that i live
i will never regret
there is a fire inside of this heart
and a riot about to explode into flames
where is your god?
the promises we made were not enough
the prayers we had prayed were like a drug
the secrets that we sold were never known
the love we had, we had to let it go
do you really want
do you really want me
do you really want me dead or alive
to torture for my sins?
do you really want me dead or alive
to live a lie?
Blood Promise Quotes
"Roza." His voice had that same wonderful lowness, the same accent... it
was all just colder. "You forgot my first lesson: Don’t hesitate."
I’d said it before and meant it: Alive or undead, the love of my life was a badass.
I looked him in the eye. “I will always love you.”
Then I plunged the stake into his chest."
"Then, his struggles stopped. His eyes stared at me, stunned, and his lips parted, almost into a smile, albeit a grisly and pained one.
"That’s what I was supposed to say..." he gasped out.
Those were his last words.
BREAK MY EFFING HEART.
PLEASE. Do tell me which songs remind you of Blood Promise! I'm always looking to expand my musical horizons! <3
