GR Summary: In Last Breath, the rain brought a new and dire threat to Morganville and its vampires... their ancient enemies, the draug. Now, the vampires are fighting a losing war, and it will fall to the residents of the Glass House: Michael, Eve, Shane and Claire, to take the fight to an enemy who threatens to destroy the town, forever.
Lovers of Morganville, rejoice: Black Dawn takes the intrigue, romance and nail-biting suspense of the series to its highest level yet!
Really, it's ridiculous that I even have to review this book when I could just post a picture of myself making the "show me your grill" face, smiling so wide, showing SO many teeth that you guys would think I'm a vampire or a shark or some crap like that. And wouldn't that be appropriate?
Black Dawn is no exception. I think Rachel Caine might be a witch. You know how the witch in Snow White like, eats people's hearts or whatever to stay young looking? Well.... I don't think Rachel Caine does that. But there is some sort of trickery going on where she can write 748 books about the same characters in the same town and everything is STILL. SO. GOOD.
Except this one was actually hard to read. Because one of my beloved characters goes through a really tough time mentally. AH, I can't say much because it will so spoil it. It's difficult to not spoil anything after 13 books. But Claire, in her ever continuous growth into supreme high bad ass, keep her composure despite her world crumbling around her. ALL OF MORGANVILLE is in peril. This book made me sad, deeply. I can't stand watching these characters with whom I've spent the previous 12 books in the midst of their suffering.
But there's always Myrnin. He cheers me up. I'm going to quote Caine, however, at RT in Chicago. "You won't be happy about what I do to him in future books." Just a forewarning. I am not looking forward to this. Still, I am in love with him.
Rachel Caine, please write this series until your hands fall off.
