Jen's Book Haul (74)

Inspired by memes hosted at The Story Siren and Tynga's Reviews.

An epic week, if I do say so myself. I've always been a Nook user. Nook + booklight = fun reading in the dark! And then, after I purchased an iPhone, I took advantage of the Kindle app, because there are always such great deals on Kindle books (not to mention April's awesome Fill Your Kindle posts always make me buy more.) But after two years, I grew tired of having to angle my booklight at the right angle so as to not blind my husband. Seriously, those Nook lights are bright. And I don't mind reading on my iPhone, but the light is kind of harsh.

So after talking to some of you on Twitter about getting the good old cheap Kindle vs. the Paperwhite, the latter won out. Obviously. Hello, soft glowing backlight! So when my parents asked what I wanted for my birthday, I opted for the lovely Paperwhite. A couple days later, it was delivered to my house and we've been inseparable ever since. Seriously, I don't even want to read anything unless it's on my new Kindle. Shortly after, I bought myself a pretty purple case that puts my Kindle to sleep when I'm not using it. I'm officially converted :)

Here's what you missed this week...

Jen reviews Wild Awake by Hilary T. Smith and thinks it definitely earned the "wild" in the title.
Jen's Waiting on Meet Me at the River by Nina de Gramont and is WTFing at the fact that there's gonna be some Cher & Josh step-sibling love going on, but with GHOSTS. My mind is already blown.
Jen reviews Pivot Point by Kasie West and admits being totally wrong about DNFing. This one deserved the second chance!
Jen reviews Game by Barry Lyga and OMG MY BLOOD PRESSURE CANNOT HANDLE THIS.
Debra Driza stopped by the blog to answer some fun questions about MILA 2.0, the UFC, and drinking WD-40. (Haha, seriously though!)

Also, if you follow my This One Thing feature, I definitely cannot commit to just doing it on one particular day of the week. I'm just that unreliable, you guys. Hahaha, but it will be up sometime this week, if you care :)

  1. I'm a nook user but my parents have the Kindle Fire and LOVE them. Congrats on your new e-reader! AWESOME haul. LOVE free e-books and really cheap e-books! Happy reading :)

  2. YAY PAPERWHITE!! I'm totally with you that I want to read things on it all the time now. It's so awesome!! THE LIGHT!! It's so pretty! I had an old kindle keyboard like a dinosaur, so I'm dying over the paperwhite's touch screen, too.
But the books: I CANNOT WAIT to read Let the Sky Fall! It's one of my most anticipated reads coming out this month. If there's a book that is even vaguely weather-related, I'm probably going to have a nerd moment over it and then get the excited fidgets. Can't wait to see what you think of this one!!
    HOLLA, free stuff!! :-)

  4. Yay for a Kindle! And I love that purple case! :)

I'm not sure if I'm interested in reading Game ... I liked I Hunt Killers, but it was very disturbing in some parts! Though, I listened to the audiobook which had a VERY creepy sounding narrator, so maybe that's why I felt so disturbed.

    1. I got the cover when I bought mine and I love it. Although, I got black instead of pretty purple. Oh well. I feel like my baby is well protected with it and it puts it to sleep so it saves battery.

  11. I recently also purchased myself a Kindle Paperwhite and I LOVE the darn thing <3<3<3<3. I love it because it weighs only about what my phone weighs and it fits in my purse which means I take it EVERYWHERE with me. No more boring waits in line at the local WalFart. So congrats on that!

  14. I want the paperwhite Kindle, too. When it's time for an upgrade from my keyboard kindle, that's what I'm getting.
Also, I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Addison Moore's writing style and storyline. I got sucked into those books even though I didn't think they were the greatest and the editing errors drove me crazy.

  18. Thanks for linking back to your Pivot Point review-I just read it in one go yesterday and loved it but had skipped over some of the reviews I saw in my google reader obviously to avoid spoilers and potentially being overhyped.

  23. Your Kindle Paperwhite is so pretty, and I love the case! I'm getting sorely tempted to buy a new Kindle since the boy "borrowed" mine and it's still with him. But then, I can always use the Kindle app on my iPad... Ah, decisions!
